The St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund is pleased to announce an exciting partnership with ping, provider of innovative driver safety and productivity technology.

The St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) is a 501(c)(3), truck driver charity that helps over-the-road and regional semi-truck drivers and their families when an illness or injury, occurring within the last year, has caused them to be out of work. More than 70% of the 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the U.S. have one or more serious health problems such as obesity, diabetes, sleep disorders and cardiovascular disease. These essential workers spend long durations away from home, work irregular hours and are often unable to get to a clinic, pharmacy or hospital. Minor illnesses become severe, leading to hospitalization and disability. Loss of their commercial driver’s license can result in them being unable to work, and financial hardship.

SCF has partnered with ping to achieve 3 key goals:

  1. Raise funding and awareness for SCF
  2. Reduce the catastrophic effects of distracted driving
  3. Keep truck drivers and their families safely connected while on the road
A 2009 study by the FMCSA found that 71 percent of large-truck crashes occurred when the truck driver was doing something besides driving the truck. Being away from home can take an emotional toll on truck drivers, but not nearly as bad as a distracted driving incident that results in license suspension, injury or fatality. ping is a patented voice-based app that keeps drivers safely connected by reading incoming messages out loud automatically. As ping is eyes-free and hands-free, listening to an important message is no more distracting than talk radio or a podcast, but eliminates both the visual distraction of looking at the phone, and the anxiety / cognitive distraction of wondering whether the message is urgent. Not just a safety tool, drivers can save fuel and pick up more loads by listening to time-sensitive email and text alerts. The app reduces anxiety, adds convenience and improves productivity.

ping’s mission is to get every driver home safely. We’re honored to partner with SCF to keep our essential workers safely connected on the move,” says Garin Toren, Founder and CEO of ping. “We’re donating 50% of revenue to this incredible relief fund and look forward to making a meaningful contribution to both drivers and SCF for many years to come.

“We know safety is of the utmost importance to our trucking community and SCF is excited to partner with a platform like ping that offers another tool to keep drivers safe while on the road as well as a commitment to support drivers by donating revenue back to SCF,” says Shannon Currier, Director of Philanthropy and Development at SCF.

Truck drivers and family members can try the ping app completely free for 14 days by clicking here. Thereafter subscription options are $2, $4 or $7 per month (details in the app).
