Long time board member Dr. Tim Ridley shares his thoughts and experiences about the St. Christopher Fund.

How did you learn about the SCF? I first learned about the SCF during the planning stages. In fact, the SCF didn’t even have a name! It was during one of my monthly visits to the Dave Nemo Show while in management at Marten Transport, that I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dave Nemo, Michael and MaryKay Burns and Dr. John, as they brainstormed about an organization to help truck drivers. After a while, the concept was there, but it needed a name. MaryKay turned to me for a suggestion and then someone called out, “St. Christopher!” I don’t remember who it was, but it was at that time the SCF was born.

What made you want to be part of the SCF? I’ve always had the desire to help others. Having been a driver and small fleet owner myself, I know the challenges truck drivers face. Simply take a look at different truck insurers, there are so many. Why do you think this is? The constant sitting hurts your back, the driving at night strains your eyes, it can be a very tedious job. I noticed the enthusiasm and the common goal of all involved with the SCF to help our drivers and their families. I knew that I wanted to be a part of this outstanding team. I’ve volunteered and served others all of my adult life and it is an honor and a pleasure to be on the Board of Directors for this wonderful organization!

Why should others be a part of the SCF? Being a part of the SCF is a gratifying experience. Those who have the desire to serve and make a difference in someone’s life should strongly consider becoming part of the SCF. You’re surrounded by a group of wonderful, like-minded people who gets joy out of making a difference in the lives of others. The SCF is always exploring various avenues to better help others.

How does your company support the SCF? My company, Dave Nemo Entertainment, helps by spreading the word on air about the SCF. I also occasionally interview SCF recipients, record SFC commercials and I also do a live “SCF Update,” with Shannon Currier each month.

How do you think the health of drivers can be improved as a whole? With the SCF and people like Dr. John, Tom Liutkus and Tom O’Brien with TA/Petro (The TA/Petro healthy menu and the gyms), as well as the regular “health” guests on my show and the Dave Nemo Show, I think drivers are choosing to be healthier, more now than ever before. Although the industry has come a long way health wise, it still has a long way to go. The “Health Walk” at the truck shows are awesome and I believe are getting truck drivers to realize that it isn’t that difficult to find time to take a daily walk. If we can continue to stress the fact-in order to provide for yourself and your family, you must stay healthy. That means daily exercise, eating healthy and quitting smoking, I believe this will significantly improve the well-being of our truck drivers, as a whole.

Mid-America Truck Show

The SCF had a fantastic time at the show! We thank TA/Petro for offering us a table at their booth. We were able to meet many of our beneficiaries and donors. We so enjoyed talking to each of them!

We also thank TA/Petro for doing the prize wheel again. The wheel raised over $4,200 for drivers in need!

The St. Christopher gathered support from the Indiana Motor Truck Association, Horton Engine Cooling Solutions and Shell Rotella while at the show.

Truckers United for Charities’ Biscuits and Gravy breakfast with Tim Ridley raised $309.60. Thank you to all who prepared and ate the food in that 20 degree weather!

Congratulations to Board Member Rick Ash on winning a Citizen Driver Award! The TA in Commerce City, CO will now be named the “Richard Ash Travel Center”.!
